Speed of Waves w/PhET

Before Class Preparation:

  • Video: How to measure the speed of waves
  • BYOD laptop or Chromebook from library
  • Does changing the frequency affect the speed of a wave?
    • Identify the independent/dependent/control variables

In Class Activity:

  • Investigate the relationship between the wavelength, frequency, and speed of a wave, and solve related problems

Class Setup

Before Class Preparation:

  • Basic knowledge needed for class. They are usually short videos or exercises to get you ready for the class.
  • There are handouts to be read over (and printed if possible) to get you ready for activities/labs in class.

In Class Activity:

  • Your teacher will give instruction for the day’s activity, which will usually be group-based.
  • It is important that everyone in the group comes to class prepared in order to fully discuss the topic at hand.

After Class Work:

  • Google classroom will be used to organize assignments.
  • There will be some video lessons here to reinforce the learning.
  • CK12 adaptive practice that are assigned to check your understanding of the material covered (aka homework practice).

    • Precision & Accuracy
  • CK12 Practice in Google Classroom (Sound in a Tube)

Quiz – Waves

Before Class Preparation:

  • Finish Assigned Edpuzzles, CK12 & Self Quizzes in Google Classroom
  • Bring: pencil, calculator, eraser, ruler, blank paper

Can you:

  • State the wavelength, amplitude, equilibrium point, frequency of a wave
  • Solve problems involving the wave equation v=fλ
  • Use the principle of superposition and draw a graph to represent interference of waves, and identify instances of constructive & destructive interference

In Class Work:

  • 15 minute pre-quiz discussion
  • 15 minute quiz

After quiz:
